From the very first interaction, CRUXCIPHERTEAM demonstrated exceptional professionalism, technical expertise, and a genuine commitment to helping me resolve the issue. CRUXCIPHERTEAM carefully investigated the security breach, identified the vulnerabilities that had been exploited, and worked efficiently to restore my account access. Throughout the process, CRUXCIPHERTEAM on Te. le gra.m maintained clear communication, providing regular updates and explaining each step in a way that was easy to understand.

Rajesh KulkarniVery Happy Customer

There are plenty of reasons to go with eToro over other trading platforms out there. I want to call out three things that really make eToro stand out from the competition: it's incredibly user-friendly, the fees are low, and their customer support is excellent. Being based in Northern Europe I get great help from Stinne Sorensen, who's genuinely helpful and always available whenever I need assistance.

Anthony RossiVery Unhappy Customer

Absolutely terrible experience. I've had a trade frozen for over a day with zero ability to close it, manage it, or shield myself from potential losses. My funds are locked up and nothing has been resolved. Customer support hasn't offered any real solution or specific timeline, just cookie-cutter replies telling me to wait "up to two business days." This is completely unacceptable for a trading platform dealing with real money and time-critical financial transactions. I am deeply unhappy with this service.

eToro Review 2026: Is This Social Trading Platform Right for You?

eToro has grown into one of the world's largest social trading platforms, boasting over 40 million registered users globally. The company went public in May 2025 on NASDAQ under the ticker symbol ETOR, raising roughly $310 million at a $52-per-share IPO price.

But what does this mean for you as an American investor? This comprehensive eToro review cuts through the marketing hype to examine what really matters: platform safety, fee structure, available investments, and whether eToro actually delivers on its promise of making investing more accessible through social trading.

You'll learn exactly what eToro is, how its signature CopyTrading feature works, what fees you'll pay, whether the platform is safe and legitimate for U.S. investors, and most importantly, whether it's the right fit for your investing goals.

We've analyzed eToro's regulatory standing, compared its costs to competitors, and identified who benefits most from its unique approach to investing.

Whether you're a complete beginner curious about social trading or an experienced investor evaluating your options, this review gives you the facts you need to make an informed decision about opening an eToro account in 2026.

What Is eToro and How Does It Work?

eToro started in 2007 but became really famous in 2010, when they introduced CopyTrading, a feature that fundamentally changed how people think about investing. Instead of researching stocks and making trades alone, you can see what successful traders are doing in real-time and automatically copy their entire portfolio with a single click.

Think of it as the social media of investing: you follow traders instead of celebrities, and their investment moves get replicated in your account proportionally.

For U.S. investors, eToro operates through two separate entities to comply with American regulations:

  • eToro USA Securities Inc., which handles stocks, ETFs, and options trading
  • eToro USA LLC manages cryptocurrency transactions

You can trade over 3,000 U.S. stocks, hundreds of ETFs, and 80+ cryptocurrencies (crypto trading is not available in NY, NV, HI, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands).

What sets eToro apart from traditional brokerages like Fidelity or Charles Schwab is this community-driven approach. You're not just buying and selling investments, you're joining a network of millions of traders, learning from their strategies, discussing market trends, and potentially copying the portfolios of investors who have proven track records.

It's investing with training wheels, which appeals to beginners but also offers value to experienced investors looking for new perspectives.

Key Features That Set eToro Apart

eToro isn't your typical brokerage. While competitors focus on low fees or advanced tools, eToro built its reputation on features that make investing more collaborative and educational, better suited for beginners and amateur investors.

These distinctive offerings explain why millions of investors worldwide choose eToro despite other platforms offering similar or even lower costs:

CopyTrading

CopyTrading is eToro's signature feature and the main reason most people open an investment account on their platform. Here's how it works:

  • You browse through thousands of experienced traders
  • You can review their performance history, risk scores, and investment strategies
  • When you've made up your mind, you then allocate funds to automatically copy their moves.
  • When they buy Tesla stock, you buy Tesla stock proportionally to your own portfolio. When they sell, you sell.
  • You can choose to copy a trader's existing portfolio (replicating everything they currently hold) or only copy new positions they open going forward.

The system uses proportional weighting, so if you allocate $1,000 to copy someone and they invest 10% of their portfolio in Apple, you'll invest $100 in Apple.

You maintain full control with the ability to set stop-loss limits on the copy relationship itself, automatically disconnecting if the trader's performance drops below your threshold.

This feature particularly appeals to beginners who want to learn by observing successful strategies in action, though it's important to remember that past performance never guarantees future results.

Social Community Features

Beyond CopyTrading, eToro functions as a social network for investors. Each stock, ETF, and cryptocurrency has a dedicated discussion feed where users share analysis, news, and opinions.

You can see sentiment indicators showing what percentage of the community is bullish or bearish on specific assets.

You can follow other investors (without copying their trades), read their market commentary, and engage in discussions about investment strategies.

While this community aspect can provide valuable insights and different perspectives, remember to approach all user-generated content critically. Not everyone sharing opinions has your best interests or risk tolerance in mind, and popularity doesn't equal expertise.

Smart Portfolios

Smart Portfolios are professionally constructed, thematic investment portfolios that you can invest in with a single click. These aren't mutual funds or ETFs, they're curated collections of stocks, ETFs, or even other traders grouped around specific themes like renewable energy, technology innovation, or dividend growth.

The minimum investment is $500, but there are no management fees beyond the standard trading commissions for the underlying assets. eToro's investment committee rebalances these portfolios periodically to maintain their strategic allocation.

For investors who want instant diversification without spending hours researching individual stocks, Smart Portfolios offer a middle ground between buying individual securities and investing in traditional funds.

Virtual Trading Account

Every new eToro user receives immediate access to a virtual trading account loaded with $100,000 in practice money. This isn't a limited trial that expires after 30 days, it's a permanent feature you can use indefinitely alongside your real account.

The virtual account uses real-time market data, so you experience actual price movements and can test strategies, learn how CopyTrading works, or simply get comfortable with the platform interface before risking real money.

This risk-free environment is invaluable for beginners who need to build confidence before making their first real investment.

eToro Academy

eToro Academy offers a comprehensive library of free educational content covering everything from basic investing concepts to advanced trading strategies.

You'll find structured courses on topics like Investing 101, cryptocurrency fundamentals, stock analysis, ETF investing, options trading, technical analysis, and portfolio construction.

The courses combine video lessons, written content, and quizzes to reinforce learning. For beginners, this educational resource can be worth thousands of dollars in avoided mistakes.

The content is designed to progress from foundational concepts to more sophisticated strategies, allowing you to grow your knowledge at your own pace.

Mobile Trading

eToro's iOS and Android apps deliver a comprehensive mobile trading experience that rivals the desktop platform.

You get access to advanced charting tools with 103 technical studies, customizable watchlists, price alerts, and full CopyTrading functionality from your smartphone.

The mobile interface is intuitive and designed for quick execution, making it easy to monitor your portfolio, respond to market movements, or adjust your copy relationships while on the go.

For investors who prefer managing their money from their phones rather than computers, eToro's mobile experience is a significant advantage.

Opening an eToro account is straightforward and typically completes within one business day once you submit your verification documents. The process is designed to get you started quickly while meeting regulatory requirements for identity verification and anti-money laundering compliance.

How to Sign Up and Start Trading on eToro

Create Your Account

Visit eToro's official website and click the 'Sign Up' button. You'll need to provide a username, email address, and create a secure password. And, believe it or not, that's it for the initial registration.

Immediately after creating your account, you gain access to the $100,000 virtual trading account, allowing you to explore the platform and practice trading with zero risk while you complete the verification process.

Verify Your Identity

To comply with federal regulations and activate real-money trading, you must verify your identity by uploading two documents:

  • Agovernment-issued photo ID (passport, driver's license, or state ID card)
  • Proof of residency (utility bill, bank statement, or government document) showing your current US address and dated within the last three months

The verification process uses secure encryption and typically completes within one business day, though it can occasionally take longer during high-volume periods.

Complete the Trading Survey

eToro is required by FINRA and SEC regulations to assess your trading experience and financial knowledge before allowing you to trade. That's why you'll need to answer questions about your investment experience, understanding of different asset classes, income level, and investment objectives.

Answer honestly, as this information helps eToro ensure you understand the risks associated with different types of investments and trading strategies.

Make Your First Deposit

Once verified, you can fund your account. Select USD as your account currency (critical for U.S. investors to avoid currency conversion fees). Choose your payment method: debit card for instant deposits or bank account connection for ACH transfers that take 4-7 business days.

The minimum initial deposit is $50, and subsequent deposits can be as low as $1. Credit cards are not accepted for deposits due to regulatory restrictions on using credit to fund investment accounts.

Start Trading or Copying

With your account funded, you're ready to invest. You can browse the platform to buy individual stocks, ETFs, cryptocurrencies, or options contracts.

Alternatively, explore the CopyTrading feature by reviewing trader profiles, performance histories, and risk scores, then allocate funds to automatically copy successful investors.

Remember that you can continue using your virtual account alongside your real account to test strategies before committing real money.

Requirements to Open an eToro Account

  1. Must be at least 18 years old (some states may require 19 or 21)
  2. Must be a U.S. resident with a valid U.S. address (eToro does not accept PO boxes)
  3. Must provide a government-issued photo ID (passport, driver's license, or state ID card)
  4. Must provide proof of residency dated within the last three months (utility bill, bank statement, or government document showing your name and current address)
  5. Must complete the identity verification process through eToro's secure upload system
  6. Must answer the required trading experience and financial knowledge questionnaire to comply with FINRA regulations
  7. Must make a minimum initial deposit of $50 via debit card or bank account connection (credit cards are not accepted)
  8. Must agree to eToro's terms and conditions, privacy policy, and customer agreement governing the brokerage relationship

eToro Fees and Available Investment Options

Understanding eToro's fee structure is critical for calculating your true investment costs and comparing the platform to alternatives.

Unlike traditional brokerages that charge flat commissions across the board, eToro uses a diversified fee model where costs vary significantly depending on what you're trading and how you're using the platform.

Here is a summary of eToro's investment costs and available options:

AssetAvailable assets (US)Core trading feesWhy it stands out

Stocks

eToro charges $0 commission on U.S. stock trades; when you sell, only tiny regulatory fees are passed through.

Coverage is broad (roughly 3,500+ U.S. stocks are available) and you can buy fractional shares, which helps with dollar-cost averaging and building positions in high-priced names.

Social features (feeds, CopyTrade) add discovery and sentiment context without changing execution costs.

For transfers, note ACATS-out is $75 if you move positions to another broker. Overall, stock pricing is competitive for long-term investors and frequent traders alike.

ETFs

ETF trades are commission-free on eToro. You still pay each fund's expense ratio (charged by the ETF provider, not by eToro), but there's no eToro commission on buys or sells.

With ~385 U.S.-listed ETFs available, you can build diversified core portfolios and rebalance without per-trade friction. Pair this with recurring deposits to keep total investing costs low.

Crypto

In the U.S., eToro currently supports 80+ cryptocurrencies for trading. After the 2024 SEC settlement initially restricted the platform to just Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, and Ethereum, eToro has gradually expanded its U.S. crypto lineup throughout 2025 and into 2026.

Fees are 1% to buy and 1% to sell, displayed clearly before you place an order.

You can transfer assets from the trading platform to the eToro Money wallet (a separate product) but that transfer has its own fee - see table below.

Important: crypto trading isn't available in NY, NV, HI, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Options

eToro options pricing is straightforward: $0 commission and $0 per-contract. A small $2/month operational fee applies to the options program, but it's waived if your combined eToro balances are $5,000+.

Standard regulatory fees still apply (e.g., ORF/TAF/SEC on sells), typically just pennies per contract.

Coverage spans listed equity and ETF options on U.S. markets, integrated in the same app experience as stocks/ETFs.

Frequently Asked Questions About eToro

Is eToro Safe and Legit?

Yes, eToro is a legitimate, regulated brokerage. eToro USA Securities Inc. is registered with the SEC as a broker-dealer and is a member of FINRA, providing SIPC protection up to $500,000 (including $250,000 for cash claims) for securities held in your account. eToro USA LLC is registered with FinCEN as a Money Services Business for cryptocurrency operations.

Crypto assets are held in custody at FDIC-member banks, offering $250,000 FDIC insurance against bank failure (though not against crypto price declines).

In September 2024, eToro settled with the SEC and paid a $1.5 million penalty for operating as an unregistered broker-dealer when offering certain crypto assets that the SEC classified as securities. While this settlement raises questions about past compliance, eToro has since restructured its U.S. crypto offerings to address regulatory concerns.

Overall, eToro is a legitimate platform with proper regulatory registrations and investor protections, though its regulatory history isn't spotless.

What Are eToro's Biggest Drawbacks?

eToro has several significant limitations U.S. investors should consider:

  • The most glaring is the 1% trading fee for crypto, which is high compared to competitors like Robinhood ($0) or Coinbase (lower fees for larger trades).
  • eToro doesn't offer mutual funds, bonds, or futures, limiting portfolio diversification options.
  • The stock screener and research tools are basic compared to platforms like Fidelity or Charles Schwab.
  • U.S. customers cannot access margin accounts for stock trading, short selling, or advanced order types like trailing stops.
  • The $5 withdrawal fee and $30 minimum withdrawal are annoying when most brokerages offer free withdrawals.
  • Customer service can be slow for non-premium members, with some users reporting difficulty reaching support during critical issues.
What Is the Minimum Deposit for eToro?

The minimum initial deposit to open and fund an eToro U.S. account is $50, which must be deposited via debit card or bank account connection (credit cards are not accepted). Once your account is established, subsequent deposits can be as low as $1. Bank transfer deposits require a minimum of $500. This low minimum makes eToro accessible to beginning investors who want to start small while learning the platform. There are no ongoing account minimums after your initial deposit.

Can I Withdraw Money From eToro Easily?

Yes, you can withdraw funds from eToro, though there are some costs and processing times to consider. USD account holders pay a $5 withdrawal fee with a $30 minimum withdrawal amount, meaning you can't withdraw less than $30 at a time.

Processing times vary by withdrawal method: bank transfers typically take 4-7 business days, while debit card refunds can take 1-10 business days depending on your card issuer.

Does eToro Offer a Practice Account?

Yes, every eToro user receives a permanent virtual trading account loaded with $100,000 in practice money. This isn't a limited trial that expires, you can use it indefinitely alongside your real account. The virtual account uses real-time market data, so you experience actual price movements and can test strategies, practice CopyTrading, or explore the platform interface without risking real money.

Is eToro Legal in the USA?

Yes, eToro is fully legal in the United States. eToro USA Securities Inc. is a SEC-registered broker-dealer and a FINRA member. Your securities are protected by SIPC coverage up to $500,000. eToro USA LLC handles cryptocurrency trading and is registered with FinCEN as a Money Services Business. The only restriction is crypto trading, which isn't available in New York, Nevada, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands due to state-level regulations.

Which Is Better, Robinhood or eToro?

It depends on what you prioritize. eToro's CopyTrading feature, social community, and educational resources make it better for beginners who want to learn by watching experienced investors. Robinhood offers a wider crypto selection at $0 fees, retirement accounts (IRAs), and margin trading, none of which eToro provides to U.S. customers. Both offer $0 stock and ETF commissions. If social investing and CopyTrading appeal to you, go with eToro. If you want broader features, retirement accounts, or cheaper crypto trading, Robinhood is the stronger choice.

Can You Actually Make Money on eToro?

Yes, you can make money on eToro the same way you can on any legitimate brokerage, by investing in stocks, ETFs, and crypto that increase in value. CopyTrading can help beginners by letting them mirror experienced investors, but it does not guarantee profits. Past performance of any trader you copy is not indicative of future results, and even top-performing traders have losing periods. The key factors are your investment strategy, time horizon, and risk management, not the platform itself.

How Trustworthy Is eToro?

eToro has strong regulatory credentials for a social trading platform. It's SEC-registered, FINRA-member, and SIPC-protected in the U.S. The company went public on NASDAQ in May 2025 (ticker: ETOR), which subjects it to additional public-company disclosure requirements. With 40M+ global users and over 17 years of operation, eToro has a solid track record. The 2024 SEC settlement ($1.5M fine for crypto compliance issues) is a blemish, but the company addressed it by restructuring its U.S. crypto offerings.

Final Verdict: Should You Choose eToro in 2026?

eToro occupies a unique position in the crowded brokerage landscape. It's not trying to be the cheapest option or the most feature-rich platform. Instead, it's built something different: a social investing experience that makes the markets more accessible and less intimidating for newcomers while offering enough functionality to keep experienced investors engaged.

The platform's strengths are substantial and specific:

  • The innovative CopyTrading feature genuinely delivers on its promise of letting you learn from successful traders by automatically replicating their strategies in real-time.
  • The user-friendly interface removes the intimidation factor that keeps many people from starting their investment portfolio.
  • The competitive pricing structure with $0 stock and ETF commissions makes buy-and-hold investing cost-effective.
  • The exceptional $100,000 virtual account provides unlimited risk-free practice.
  • The comprehensive free educational resources through eToro Academy can save beginners thousands of dollars in costly mistakes.
  • The low $50 minimum deposit removes financial barriers to entry.
  • The strong regulatory standing as an SEC-registered broker-dealer with SIPC protection provides legitimate investor safeguards.
  • And the successful global platform with over 40 million users demonstrates that eToro's approach resonates with investors worldwide.

However, the limitations are equally important to acknowledge:

  • The 1% crypto trading fee makes eToro a poor choice for active crypto traders who can pay $0 on Robinhood.
  • The absence of bonds, mutual funds, and futures limits portfolio diversification options.
  • The research tools and stock screener are basic compared to established brokerages like Fidelity or Charles Schwab.
  • U.S. customers cannot access margin accounts for stock trading, short selling, or advanced order types.
  • The simplified options interface limits sophisticated trading strategies.
  • And as a relatively new public company (NASDAQ: ETOR since May 2025), the stock trades well below its $52 IPO price, though that reflects broader market conditions more than platform quality.

So who should choose eToro?

  • The platform is excellent for beginning investors seeking social trading features and educational support to build confidence and knowledge.
  • It works well for long-term stock and ETF investors who prioritize low costs and don't need advanced tools.
  • It's ideal for those wanting to learn from experienced traders through CopyTrading rather than figuring everything out alone.
  • And it suits mobile-first investors who prefer managing their portfolios from smartphones.

Who should look elsewhere?

  • Active cryptocurrency traders should consider Coinbase, Kraken, or Robinhood for better coin selection and lower fees.
  • Sophisticated investors needing comprehensive research tools, advanced order types, or margin accounts should explore Interactive Brokers or Fidelity.
  • Options traders requiring advanced functionality and analysis tools should consider dedicated platforms like Tastyworks.
  • And investors seeking bonds, mutual funds, or futures need full-service brokerages that offer these asset classes.

For the right investor profile, particularly beginners and social traders, eToro offers a compelling, innovative platform that makes investing more accessible and educational.

The combination of CopyTrading, educational resources, and a supportive community creates an environment where new investors can learn while actually investing, rather than being paralyzed by fear or overwhelmed by complexity. If you fit that profile, eToro deserves serious consideration.

It took some time, but I've finally gotten through to someone, and they released my funds. Now I've deposited more money and sent an inquiry about copy portfolios, hoping to hear back soon. Original review: Absolutely terrible. I wanted to use the isa they were advertising, and deposited money directly into my pool balance at eToro. Then I discovered the isa isn't through them directly but through a third party, money farm, so I try moving the funds over, they go through, get sent back and my account gets locked! Ridiculous. Now there's a bunch of security verification to complete, half of which I can't finish because the links don't work etc. It's really frustrating that my own money that I put in is now inaccessible. Nearly impossible to actually get a live chat with anyone, don't waste your time. I'm thinking about just giving up and closing my account once they finally let me get to my own money.

every week the platform doesn't follow their own market hours, and prices are way off compared to other platforms

Way too many fees!!*Conversion fee just to deposit your funds*Fee to open a trade*Awful spread pricing (which is really just another fee)*Fee to close a trade*Fee to withdraw to your bank* And I'm pretty sure there's a conversion fee to withdraw into a non-USD currency too I'd love to know what percentage your portfolio needs to gain just to cover all these costs? I'd guess somewhere north of 3.5% for anyone investing around £1000, and over 8% if you're only putting in £100. These fees are absolutely ridiculous.

Absolute garbage of a company. When you try to close your account, they want to hold back up to €30 of your balance. In my book: outright fraud. I'll keep pushing just on principle until I get my €12.50 back. ----From the eToro email: "We would like to mention that there is 12.56 USD in your eToro available balance. Since the withdrawal fee is 5.00 USD and the minimum amount for a bank transfer is 30.00 USD, this amount is non-refundable. If you wish, you can deposit up to the minimum amount and then make a withdrawal." Instead of just giving me back what's mine, they actually want me to put in even more money. Case 08551900. How can internal rules possibly be this ridiculous?

I had 4million Terra Luna Classic(LUNA) in my account that are gone now with no explanation. I’ve been talking to their customer support in chat and getting nowhere, and I’ve been trying for 4 days now. I need my coins back in my account. This feels really unprofessional.
