If you want to know how to buy Nvidia stock, the process is simple: open a brokerage account, deposit money, search for Nvidia under the ticker NVDA, and place an order.
Before buying, decide how much of your portfolio you are willing to place in one company. Nvidia has grown fast, but its share price can fall when sales, profit margins, regulation, or investor expectations change.
You can compare brokerage accounts and investment apps for beginners before opening an account. Check the broker's fees, account minimums, order choices, and whether it offers fractional shares. This guide is educational and is not personalized investment or tax advice.
The exact screens differ by broker, but the basic buying process is much the same.
Choose a Brokerage
Choose a U.S. brokerage that offers Nasdaq-listed stocks. Compare trading costs, account fees, customer support, security, and available order types. If you want to invest a dollar amount instead of buying a whole share, confirm that the broker supports fractional NVDA stock. Not every broker does.
Open the Right Account
Complete the broker's application and identity checks. You may choose a taxable brokerage account or an eligible retirement account, such as an IRA. Each account has different tax and withdrawal rules, so review them before making a deposit.
Fund the Account
Link a bank account and transfer the amount you plan to invest. Brokers may place a temporary hold on a new deposit. Keep enough cash outside your investment account for bills and emergencies.
Find Nasdaq: NVDA
Search for Nvidia Corporation and confirm the ticker is NVDA on the Nasdaq Global Select Market. Check both the company name and ticker before continuing, since similar names can appear in search results.
Choose Shares or a Dollar Amount
Enter the number of whole shares you want. If your broker offers fractional investing for NVDA, you may be able to enter a smaller dollar amount instead. Broker rules for minimum purchases, transfers, voting, and eligible stocks vary.
Select an Order Type
A market order seeks quick execution but does not guarantee the price you see on screen. A buy limit order sets the highest price you will pay. It can execute only at that price or lower, and it may never fill.
Review and Submit
Check the ticker, amount, order type, estimated cost, and any fee before submitting. A filled order will appear in your holdings. A pending limit order remains open according to the duration you selected.
Monitor Without Overconcentrating
Track company filings and results, but avoid reacting to every price move. Review how much Nvidia represents in your full portfolio. You can research other stocks, index funds, and ETFs if you want broader diversification.
Nvidia designs computing platforms used in artificial intelligence, data centers, gaming, professional visualization, and other markets. The company reports two main business areas: Compute & Networking and Graphics.
For the fiscal year ended January 25, 2026, Nvidia reported $215.938 billion in revenue. Compute & Networking produced $193.479 billion, and Graphics produced $22.459 billion. This mix shows how important accelerated computing and data-center demand have become to the business.
Nvidia common stock began public trading on January 22, 1999. It now trades on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under NVDA. When you buy a whole share, you directly own a small part of Nvidia Corporation. A fund that holds Nvidia gives you indirect exposure through the fund, which is not the same as owning only NVDA stock.
Nvidia's results have been driven by demand for AI computing and data-center infrastructure. In the first quarter of fiscal 2027, which ended April 26, 2026, the company reported revenue of $81.615 billion, up 85% from the same quarter a year earlier. Data Center revenue was $75.2 billion, up 92%. GAAP diluted earnings per share were $2.39, and the GAAP gross margin was 74.9%.
Strong growth does not tell you whether the current nvidia stock price offers good value. The market also weighs expected future growth, profit margins, new product cycles, manufacturing capacity, competition, and customer spending.
Export controls and other regulations can restrict which chips Nvidia may sell in certain markets. Customer concentration matters too. In fiscal 2026, two direct customers represented 22% and 14% of revenue. A change in orders from a large customer could affect results.
Nvidia's latest disclosed stock split was a 10-for-1 split announced in May 2024 and effected in June 2024. A split increases the share count and reduces the per-share price in proportion. It does not change an investor's proportional ownership by itself. You can review upcoming events on our stock split calendar and use our stock prices page for broader market research.
Whole shares: Buying whole NVDA shares gives you direct ownership in Nvidia. Your return depends on price changes and any dividends the board declares.
Fractional shares: Some brokers let you invest a dollar amount that is smaller than the cost of one whole share. Fractional-share rules differ. Minimums, order handling, transferability, and voting rights depend on the broker's program. Dividends and stock splits are generally allocated in proportion to your fraction.
Funds and ETFs: An index fund, mutual fund, or ETF may hold Nvidia alongside many other companies. This can reduce single-company concentration, but it also means Nvidia is only one part of what you own. Check the fund's holdings, expense ratio, and investment goal. It is not pure NVDA exposure.
Many U.S. brokers offer commission-free online stock trades, but costs can still exist. The bid-ask spread is the gap between the available buying and selling prices. A broker may also charge account, transfer, or service fees. Because NVDA is listed in U.S. dollars, a U.S. investor funding a dollar account will not normally need a currency conversion for the trade.
In a taxable account, your cost basis helps determine the gain or loss when you sell. The IRS generally classifies gains and losses as short term or long term based on the holding period. Dividends may be ordinary or qualified, depending on the payment and whether IRS requirements are met. Tax treatment in an IRA or 401(k) follows different rules, including limits and restrictions on withdrawals.
Keep trade confirmations and tax forms with your records. State taxes may also apply. A tax professional can explain how the rules fit your situation. If income is part of your research, our dividend calendar can help you track company payment schedules.
A good company can still be a poor investment at the wrong price. NVDA stock may fall if results do not meet the high growth and profit expectations already reflected in its valuation.
Nvidia also has business-specific risks. A large share of its revenue depends on AI and data-center spending. Its customer base is concentrated, and several large buyers develop their own chips. Competitors may produce better, cheaper, or more efficient hardware and software.
Nvidia relies on outside companies for important parts of manufacturing, assembly, testing, and packaging. Supply limits, production defects, or delays can restrict shipments. Product transitions can also create uneven sales between quarters.
Government export controls may limit access to overseas customers or require Nvidia to change its products. Rules can change with little notice. Other risks include rapid technical change, cybersecurity problems, and swings in semiconductor demand.
The largest portfolio risk may be concentration. Owning one stock leaves your result tied to one company. A diversified fund spreads your money across more holdings, though diversification cannot prevent all losses.
Yes. You can buy Nvidia common stock through a brokerage that offers Nasdaq-listed shares. Search for Nvidia Corporation under ticker NVDA, then choose the number of shares or an eligible fractional amount.
Nvidia's ticker is NVDA, and its common stock trades on the Nasdaq Global Select Market. Confirm both the ticker and company name before submitting an order.
Yes, if your broker offers fractional shares for NVDA. Availability, minimum purchases, voting rights, order handling, and transfers vary by broker, so read the program terms first.
You need enough for at least one share at the available market price, unless your broker supports fractional NVDA purchases. With fractional investing, the broker sets the minimum dollar amount. Fees may add to your total cost.
Yes. Nvidia's latest disclosed split was a 10-for-1 stock split effected in June 2024. The split changed the number of shares and the per-share price, but it did not change each holder's proportional ownership by itself.
